Fine Line

I am two halves of two people

Who cannot find each other

Who are lost

Am I to be an empty body forever hosting two wild hearts

Beating in different rhythms

Belonging to other parts

I am a house with two masters

Where a warm fireplace burns bright

Words are strewn across the space

Paint and brushes by the light

Many tales are held here

All safe and fair

But while one lies content in this space

In runs the other in frantic despair

Not enough!

Not enough!

This is not enough!

And so the incessant commotion begins:

Yes, it is you old fool

Take your lonesome,

Your fear

And your thoughts somewhere else

There will be no peace as long as we both live here

Then why do you not leave?

Take all of your books

Your stories

Your ideas

Your wistful looks

You cannot live in those worlds

And will die alone here

If you stop playing these silly games

There is a normal life near

See here,

Why should I want this normal you speak of?

Though I have my sadness

I am happy where I am

Time as we know it

Is a thorn in our side

It takes without reason

It goes out with the tide

I do not want your normal

Which steals from mine

Can you not see it is already being swallowed away?

Please leave me be

Here in my fine line

Take your normal elsewhere

I take joy in mine
